Hello everyone and welcome to Samoan Language Week!! This week for Samoan Language Week we made a Samoan umu. An umu is a traditional method of cooking food, common with/among the Pacific Islands. We learnt that the umu predominately/mostly uses ‘thermal energy.’ We started our day with a Samoan prayer, took a group photo, checked on the umu and then had a very competitive game of kilikiti! Kilikiti is Samoan cricket. This game is kinda like Baseball but you need a different bat and a different Ball. The one we played was different, it was like softball but we used a different bat and a dodgeball.
This is Josaia bowling.
This is Diego hitting the dodgeball.
Boys – Siva afi – fire dance.
This activity was very cool, Savior‘s Dad showed us on how to spin the fire stick, and ofcourse the stick wasn’t on fire. He showed us very awesome moves, even my teacher tried, (Mr. Pou/Matua) also the principal was very good at it, (Mr. Maile) even people in my class did. (it was only the boys)
The fire stick dance was very cool, I even had a turn but I actually did pretty good and bad.
Something I enjoyed was the fire stick dance thing, because it made me wake up, and also the food the Samoan people (Mr. Tie, Mrs. Mafu, Mr. Maile and others) made was very delicious.
Toe feiloa’i – see you again
